One of the biggest tips I’ve learned from living with a neat freak is that if you keep up with a routine your house will never get out of hand. I stumbled upon the following chart by Lauren Conrad which breaks down chores into days, weeks, months, and seasons.
Spend just a few minutes each day tidying up, and forever be prepared for that unexpected guest.
Daily
- Make your bed
- Do any dishes left in the sink
- Hang up any clothes left around your room
- Take out the garbage if it’s full
- Wipe up spills while they’re fresh
Weekly
- Vacuum, sweep, or mop
- Do Laundry
- Wipe down kitchen and bathroom counters and mirrors
- Change towels and sheets
- Scrub and disinfect toilet
- Disinfect doorknobs, phones, keyboards, remotes, etc.
Monthly
- Dust bookshelves, appliances, light fixtures, and other surfaces
- Wash bath mats
- Launder duvet cover or quilt
- Wipe down microwave and refrigerator
- Clean and disinfect showers and tubs
Seasonal
- Wash windows
- Reorganize kitchen, bathroom, and desk clutter
- Deep clean the oven
- Wipe down baseboards and molding
The frequency of these duties may vary if you’re more sensitive to allergens, have animals or babies.
